The best way to getting around in Sri Lanka for short and medium distances is using a Tuk Tuk taxi service, the colourful three-wheelers are present everywhere. They are the very authentic way to move around and get some fresh air, the speed is good enough to enjoy the surrounding environment and ask for a stop in every moment.
