Hikkaduwa Beach
Hikkaduwa is a small town on the south coast of Sri Lanka. It is located in the Southern Province, about 17 km north-west of Galle. Hikkaduwa is famous for its beach, surfing, corals and night life. The place is on the way from Colombo to Galle on the famous Galle road. It is primarily a tourist destination, and serves as a great beach with options to surf, snorkel and enjoy the sun.
Surfing
Hikkaduwa, situated 98 km south of Colombo, has been a favorite destination with international surfers for three decades. Because it also attracts non-surfers, this fishing village has a comprehensive and well-developed tourist infrastructure, such as a bewildering number of guesthouses - including many situated on the beachfront - and a cosmopolitan array of restaurants and cafes. Being good value for money as well, it is little wonder that Hikkaduwa has been as popular for as long.

The Hikkaduwa harbor, which is a rare a natural harbor is a popular tourist destination. The harbor is used by fishermen who travel early in the morning and return with an abundant catch. Visitors could experience how fish are caught and even buy fish fresh from the sea. The spectacular sight of stilt fishermen close to dusk is also a sight not to be missed.
Hikkaduwa Turtle Farm
On the beach about 2 km north of Hikkaduwa is a small private turtle research center, which works to protect the endangered turtle species. Turtle eggs selected for hatching & progressive stages of the development of turtles can be seen here. Eggs are collected or bought from local villagers and buried in the sand of the hatcher.
River Safari
Madu Ganga is a river situated in the Balapitiya area and is considered the second largest wetland of the Island. It had been used to connect many Islands that surround the wetland. The river also supports a rich offering of life including various aquatic plants and fish. Sri Lanka also has up to 90 species of fish and 21 species of crabs while some ongoing studies seem to suggest that there is the possibility that there are more undiscovered species located in the Island.

Historical Sri Devol Maha Devolalya is the only devolaya that is located in the middle of the sea. From Colombo, South bound on Galle road, pass by 61 post, one can see the breathtaking island mass of the Devol Devalaya. In Galle district, Rathgama Seat, Hikkaduwa divisional secretariat, is where historically and culturally highly valued Devol situated. Many of the Island Believers are attracted to this scared ground.

Close to Hikkaduwa, in Ambalangoda is a popular masks factory. They specialise in making traditional Sri Lankan masks carved from wood.
